October 21-27, 2018 has provided some challenges. I still had a few days where I struggled to come up with something for a given prompt to draw, and I had a couple of images that I liked. The three prompts I had a hard time coming up with something to sketch were: expensive, chop, and stretch, these are all represented on the top row in the image above. Some of the sketches turned out to be fun or surprising.
Drain. For this image the thing that turned out nice was the rocket idea, adding contour lines to help describe the shape and mechanical elements that help show how it would work. I like the concept and will see about refining it.
Muddy. The lungfish stuck in my head and I got the question of what would these fish do if they could drive, answer is mud running! I really enjoy this one as it turned out very close to the idea that I had in my head.
Prickly. First thing to pop in my head was the prickly pear. I drew the pear from reference with no expectations and added a focused area for rendering. Overall I like this image, just feel the background took over and hid the pear. This was also one of the few images that I did crosshatch rendering on, I will need to do this again and work on getting the shading to render better.
Thunder. I started the week with a cartoon jet to end with a real jet. This was one that Google Image did not help, except for the random image of a jet fighter. After I had drawn this, it got me thinking about doing more, so the project was created to draw fighter plans. I am currently building a list of jets to draw and will work on this around January time-frame.
Go out and draw something out of your comfort zone.
So my lesson learned from this past week: push yourself to draw things I would not consider drawing and grow. A few of these pushes turned out better than I thought they would, and others sparked ideas for future projects. Go out and draw something out of your comfort zone.
