To the Unknown?

Initial Sketch

In the effort of continuing to learn and practice my digital painting, I am taking the above sketch and turning it into a digital print. I do not know how long this will take, but I will be posting updates to my Ko-fi page and any insights here on my blog.

The Process

1. Line Work

I love the look a the crisp flowing vector line, and I will be using Adobe’s Fresco to do this. From my experiment from #Degicember2019 with Fresco, I found the vector brush to be an excellent tool to provide flowing vector lines. Compared to Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer where I use points to mark the outline and then tweak the path created.

2. Digital Coloring

Here is where I will be doing something new, I will be following Will Terry’s digital painting process. I recently watched a three-hour session where he went over this process, and I liked the final results that it inspired me to try out.

I can not say that I will follow it exactly, as I will be doing as much as I can in Procreate for coloring. But I didn’t see anything in his process that I could not do in Procreate, and I will make my notes where the differences are. The first difference is his airbrush he uses has a texture, and I will be looking for a spongy like texture while I focus on my linework. (No, it will not be a Spong Bob texture, although that idea does intrigue me. :))

3. Printed Product

I will be using the same printer I have used for my digital prints to print this, but I will have the goal created on my Ko-Fi page that will fund the cost for the run. When the goal has been met, anyone who supported it will get a copy of the print.

Updates

As I mentioned, I will be providing updates as I make progress on my Ko-Fi page and once a week update on Instagram
